Yuliia Akymova

Correspondent of RBC-Ukraine

Yuliia is a journalist with over eight years of experience, specializing in law enforcement, anti-corruption agencies, courts, as well as field reporting and on-the-ground coverage.

Born in Mykolaiv, she graduated in 2016 from Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University with a degree in foreign philology. While still a student, she co-founded the student media Petro Mohyla TV and actively worked on field reports. After her third year, she also participated in the Camp America program and spent four months in the United States.

After graduation, she began her career at a regional radio station, where hosted news segments and morning shows. Later joined the online outlets NikVesti and Prestupnosti.NET, covering regional government affairs, local politics, and conducting investigative journalism. Her reporting included investigations into abuses at public institutions, the activities of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and the regional council.

Following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, she reported from the frontline in Mykolaiv, covering the first days of the war, the aftermath of shellings, and prisoner exchanges.

Since August 2022, she has been part of the RBC-Ukraine team, focusing on law enforcement, anti-corruption bodies, and the judiciary. She has reported from de-occupied Kherson, Donetsk, and Sumy regions, joined Interior Ministry press tours, and produced interviews with collaborators as well as stories from prisoner-of-war camps. Her work has earned recognition and awards from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Her interests include travel, documentary films about criminal cases, World War II, and Soviet-era propaganda.
