Russians struggle with ATM cash withdrawals after Ukrainian cyberattack, sources
Russians are facing problems with taking cash out of ATMs. Defense Intelligence of Ukraine has carried out a cyberattack, according to RBC-Ukraine in the special services.
The cyberattack on the Russian banking sector, which is involved in financing the armed aggression of Russia, has been going on for several days in a row and is gaining momentum.
After the online services of leading Russian banks, Internet providers, social networks, and national payment systems were targeted, ATMs have now been attacked. Ukrainian intelligence also managed to gain access to the databases of Russian financial institutions.
Customers of a number of Russian banks are unable to withdraw cash, and their debit and credit cards are immediately blocked when they try to use ATMs.
The affected VTB Bank, Alfa Bank, SebrBank, Raiffeisen Bank, RSXB Bank, Rosbank, Gazprombank, T-Bank, and iBank have been joined by the Russian bank DOM.RF. The brokerage application T-Investments was also blocked. On July 26, Russia raised key interest rates to 18%, making it impossible to conduct any banking transactions due to a lack of access to services, which led to a loss of funds among the population.
Large-scale cyberattack
The cyberattack against the Russian financial sector began on the morning of July 23. As a result of the actions of the special services, payment systems, mobile applications of banks, personal accounts, public transport payment systems, etc. were hampered.
Later, popular messengers, Internet and telecommunications service providers, the largest Russian social networks, and several applications related to financial services were attacked.
