President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump have concluded their meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, according to a comment by Ukrainian presidential spokesperson Serhii Nykyforov to journalists.
Nykyforov confirmed that the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy has already concluded. According to him, the presidents spoke one-on-one. Overall, the meeting lasted just over an hour.
The President’s Office described the meeting between the two leaders as "good," according to a comment by Ukrainian presidential communications adviser Dmytro Lytvyn.
During his Davos speech, Trump said Ukraine and Russia were "reasonably close" to reaching a peace agreement. He noted that he was "helping NATO" and announced a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
However, at the time of the announcement, the Ukrainian president was in Kyiv. A day earlier, Zelenskyy said he would not travel to the Davos forum and would remain in Ukraine following another massive Russian strike on the country’s energy infrastructure. He departed for Switzerland only on the morning of January 22, and later that day the two leaders met.
It had also been planned that Zelenskyy and Trump might sign an agreement on Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction worth about $800 billion at the end of January. However, in the end, the signing of the document was not discussed.
