Today, January 22, a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US leader Donald Trump began in Davos, as the spokesperson for the President of Ukraine, Serhii Nykyforov, told journalists.

Shortly before the meeting, Trump told a Sky News journalist about “getting closer” to a peace deal on the war in Ukraine.

“Today, as you know, today, the president (Zelenskyy - ed.) and I will be discussing it. We're meeting with President Putin today or tomorrow and so people are going over and I think they're getting close. A lot of people are being killed. We've got to get it done,” Trump said.

US peace plan

Donald Trump believes that Ukraine and Russia are "reasonably close" to concluding a peace agreement. He noted that he is helping NATO and announced a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Earlier, in an interview with Reuters, Donald Trump stated that it is Ukraine, not Russia, that is delaying the process of concluding a peace agreement and called Zelenskyy the main obstacle.

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff said that Putin is interested in signing a peace agreement with Ukraine, despite the absence of signs of the Kremlin’s readiness to compromise on its demands.

Witkoff stated that together with Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, he will travel to Moscow on January 22 for talks with Putin.

During the meeting, the sides plan to discuss a 20-point plan to end the war, which, according to Trump’s special envoy, is more than 90% ready.

Earlier, media reports said that Zelenskyy and Trump could sign an agreement on Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction worth about $800 billion.

According to sources, the signing of the document is planned at the Davos forum. The agreement is designed for 10 years and provides for the reconstruction of the country after the war and the relaunch of the Ukrainian economy.
