For Ukraine, it is important that the price cap on Russian oil remains at $30 per barrel. This must be a joint decision by the G7 leaders, including the United States, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I urge you to work with the United States to enforce a strict price cap on Russian oil. Right now, the proposed cap is $45 per barrel, but many experts agree that a truly effective level is $30," the Ukrainian President said.

According to him, Ukraine, together with its partners, should make it "painful for Russia."

"The EU's 18th sanctions package must also hit Russian energy and banks. And it's important to have 40 billion USD annually of budgetary support for Ukraine – for our resilience, for our country to carry on. And it should be a common decision of G7 leaders, including the US," Zelenskyy emphasized.

G7 summit

Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is on a visit to Canada, where the G7 summit is taking place.

On the sidelines of the event, he has several meetings scheduled. RBC-Ukraine has detailed Zelenskyy's visit program in Canada.

The G7 summit, which includes leaders from the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the European Union, and the UK, began yesterday, June 16, and runs through today.

This time, the summit is focused on the situation in the Middle East, the Russia-Ukraine war, and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notably, this is the first G7 summit for US President Donald Trump in his second term. However, Trump left the summit early.

He explained that he is delaying sanctions because he is waiting for a possible peace deal to end the war in Ukraine.
