Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that he spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump. The two sides discussed several topics, including efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine and an upcoming meeting at the G7 summit.

"I have just had a great conversation with Trump. I congratulated President Trump on his birthday, and we have had quite a detailed discussion about many key things – peace, surely, was among them," Zelenskyy wrote on X.

The Ukrainian leader said he wished Trump every success, above all in his work to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

In addition, the president expressed gratitude for the support the United States provides to Ukraine, stressing that Kyiv remembers every step of that assistance with appreciation — from Javelin anti-tank systems to Patriot air defense systems.

Zelenskyy also said he and Trump discussed ways to bring peace closer as soon as possible, noting that certain ideas were on the table.

"We discussed things that could help bring about peace now, and I informed the President about the latest developments on the battlefield and how our position has strengthened. We agreed that we will discuss more during our meeting at the G7 Summit. We have some good ideas that could help advance peace and protect lives," the Ukrainian leader concluded.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy recorded a video speech in which he once again confirmed that he had agreed to meet with Donald Trump. According to him, G7 formats will take place in Europe in the coming days, with the main topics including opportunities to achieve peace.

The president also said that Trump made the right remarks regarding Crimea today.

"And absolutely correct words by President Trump today, in particular about our Crimea: it was precisely the seizure of Crimea by Russia that started everything, and if there had been strong leadership at the time, there would simply have been no war at all," the Ukrainian leader stressed.

Zelenskyy–Trump G7 meeting

The G7 summit will begin tomorrow, June 15, in France, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump expected to participate in a working session.

Earlier media reports suggested Trump had no plans for a separate meeting with Zelenskyy, but according to the Ukrainian president's statement, such a meeting will take place.

Politico also reported today that, amid Ukraine's battlefield successes and advances in drone warfare, Ukraine and Europe plan to persuade Trump on several key issues.

In particular, they aim to convince Trump to speed up the delivery of Patriot missiles and systems, restore support for Ukraine, and increase economic pressure on Russia so that Moscow enters negotiations in good faith.
