Against the backdrop of recent statements by Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Vladimir Putin is pretending that he does not need peace, but international pressure could persuade Russia to end the war.

"I had a very substantive conversation with the Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte. It is important to move faster on security guarantees for Ukraine, to be as productive as possible together with America, to strengthen our air defense," the President wrote following his conversation with Rutte.

Zelenskyy also noted that the Kremlin leader continues to show an unwillingness to negotiate and move toward peace.

"We continue coordination for the sake of real diplomacy. Putin pretends he does not need peace, does not need negotiations, but in fact global pressure can shape Russia’s interest in ending the war. I thank everyone helping," the head of state concluded and thanked the countries that are making efforts to end the war.

Allies trying to force Putin to make peace and discussing security guarantees for Ukraine

On September 4, a meeting of more than 30 representatives of countries was held in Paris to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. In addition to material support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the presence of foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine was discussed.

In total, a number of countries are ready to send 30,000 soldiers to Ukraine as part of security guarantees. Some countries have not yet made a decision.

Only 21 of the 30 countries present in Paris provided specifics on security guarantees. And only 10 of the 21 countries agreed to send troops to Ukraine.

The United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Baltic states, the Netherlands, and Australia are ready to deploy troops in Ukraine.

It is also known that Italy, Poland, and Romania will not send their troops to Ukraine.

The US contribution to Ukraine's security guarantees will be announced in the coming weeks, according to French President Emmanuel Macron, following talks with US President Donald Trump.

The US does not intend to send its troops to Ukraine, but is ready to provide air defense.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Europe must increase military production more quickly to catch up with Russia. The alliance has planned higher defense spending in 2025.

Rutte also appealed to defense companies and called for increased production of various types of weapons, including missiles, tanks, and air defense systems.
