Zelenskyy says US Tomahawk missiles could make Russians sober up

Deliveries of American long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could make the Russians sober up and sit down at the negotiating table, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a meeting with journalists on October 8.
The head of the Ukrainian state noted that US President Donald Trump "can give Ukraine some long-range things" that will definitely strengthen the country.
Zelenskyy said that he first raised this issue with Trump back in the fall of last year in New York, when Trump was still only a presidential candidate. During their latest meeting, there was no refusal, but rather promises to work on a technical level and consider such a possibility.
The president pointed out that he had raised the issue of supplying new long-range weapons even during the previous administration of Joe Biden, but at that time, there was a refusal.
"Now, an important signal is the strengthening of Ukraine by all possible means. And this is one of those opportunities that is important to me — Tomahawks. All such measures can strengthen Ukraine and sober up the Russians. To sober them up a little, to make them sit down at the negotiating table," Zelenskyy emphasized.
What Trump said
A few days ago, US President Donald Trump stated that the decision on supplying long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine had been made.
The American leader clarified that he wants to find out what Ukraine can do with them and where they would be launched.
Yesterday, on October 7, Axios, citing unnamed sources, reported that the White House fears losing control over Ukraine in the event of transferring such missiles.
