Ukraine and France have coordinated their positions on diplomatic pressure on Russia, the battlefield situation, and the strengthening of Ukraine's air defenses, according to the statement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Ukrainian leader said he and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the current diplomatic prospects, reporting that Macron "clearly understands all the details of the current diplomatic prospects."

Zelenskyy stressed the importance of ensuring that the actions of Ukraine's partners in negotiations and efforts to pressure Russia are as coordinated as possible.

"Important that every step we take in negotiations, in putting pressure on Russia, and in bringing peace closer is carried out with maximum preparation and coordination with our key partners," the president said.

The head of state also emphasized the need for Europe to be involved in the diplomatic process around the war.

"Our position is that Europe must be part of the diplomatic process, and Europe's voice must matter," Zelenskyy stressed.

The president also briefed Macron on the battlefield situation and the key threats facing Ukraine. According to Zelenskyy, Russia continues to launch missile and drone strikes across Ukrainian territory, targeting the country's settlements.

The two leaders also discussed ways to counter Russian attacks and Ukraine's need for additional air defense systems. Zelenskyy expressed hope for continued support from France.

Earlier, in May 2026, Zelenskyy discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defenses with Emmanuel Macron and France's readiness to work to provide Ukraine with ballistic missile defense capabilities.

The two leaders later spoke again following the G7 summit, which was held in the French city of Évian-les-Bains on June 15-17.

On the sidelines of the summit, Zelenskyy met with Donald Trump. Following the meeting, the two countries launched talks on licensing the production of air defense components and missiles.
