Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Sunday, June 14, according to a knowledgeable source of RBC-Ukraine.
The source reports that the conversation between the leaders lasted at least 30 minutes. During the call, the Ukrainian leader congratulated Trump on his birthday and discussed other topics, including negotiations.
"It was a normal conversation. The president congratulated Trump on his birthday, and they managed to discuss all the most important issues — including ideas on negotiations," the source said.
Zelenskyy–Trump meeting
Tomorrow, on June 15, the G7 summit will begin in France and run until June 17. The media have already reported that both US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will take part in a working session.
However, no separate bilateral meeting of Zelenskyy with Trump has been scheduled. At the same time, a Politico source notes that such a meeting could still be arranged.
Recently, the media also reported that EU leaders plan to persuade Trump at the summit to change his approach to negotiations with Russia over the war in Ukraine. In particular, Europe is pushing for the current front line to become the basis for talks.
Politico also published an article today stating that, amid Ukraine's battlefield successes and advances in drone warfare, Kyiv and Europe intend to convince Trump of three key points.
In particular, they aim to persuade him to expedite the delivery of Patriot missile systems, restore support for Ukraine, and increase sanctions pressure on Russia to compel Moscow to enter into good-faith negotiations.
