Zelenskyy discusses lifting US arms supply restrictions with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed lifting restrictions on arms supplies to deter Russia with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.
The Foreign Minister noted that President Zelenskyy had a very productive conversation with Trump, describing it as "one of those historic discussions that change the paradigm."
Sybiha clarified that the negotiations addressed Russia's frozen assets. According to him, Kyiv strongly hopes for progress in this area because "it is only fair that the aggressor state pays for the atrocities it has caused with its aggression."
"Of course, the discussion also focused on lifting any taboos on arms supplies to Ukraine. There must be a deterrence package. Russia must understand that by attacking Ukraine with 600–800 drones, it will receive a proportional response — or even more," Sybiha stated.
Tomahawk supplies for Ukraine
In recent days, The Telegraph reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a closed-door meeting with Donald Trump, raised the issue of supplying Ukraine with US long-range Tomahawk missiles capable of striking targets up to 1,600 kilometers away.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine may not necessarily use these missiles, but their mere presence would serve as a strong deterrent against massive air attacks on the country.
Axios reported that Trump declined this request. However, Zelenskyy believes that Ukraine will eventually receive these missiles.
In addition, according to media reports, Trump is ready to lift the ban on long-range strikes on Russian territory.
This issue is expected to be discussed next week during a meeting between Ukrainian representatives and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
