Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a new sanctions resolution targeting individuals who justify Russian aggression and are used by the Kremlin for propaganda purposes.
According to him, further sanctions steps have also been approved and will be announced in the near future. The President emphasized that pressure on Russia must be maintained and that Ukraine will continue working to synchronize its sanctions resolutions with those of its partners.
"Pressure on Russia must be maintained, and we will continue working on synchronizing sanctions—not only partners' resolutions within our jurisdiction, but also Ukraine's sanctions resolutions within partners' lists. Already now, a significant share of individuals under partners' personal sanctions, and entities on corporate sanctions lists, are based on Ukraine's proposals," Zelenskyy said.
Ukraine's latest sanctions against Russia
In December, Ukraine imposed sanctions on nearly 700 tankers from Russia's so-called "shadow fleet," which are used to transport sanctioned oil in circumvention of international restrictions.
Earlier this year, in September, Ukraine introduced personal sanctions against individuals and companies involved in supporting Russia's military and industrial complex, its shadow fleet, and the energy sector.
In addition, Ukraine coordinated sanctions measures with Canada, placing restrictions on 139 individuals and legal entities involved in sustaining Russia's war machine. They included relatives of Vladimir Putin.
In late December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the preparation of several new sanctions packages against Russian citizens and their partners for supporting the war against Ukraine.
On January 4, Ukraine's leader signed a decree enacting the National Security and Defense Council resolution to impose sanctions on 95 individuals and 70 legal entities, most of whom are citizens and residents of Russia.
