Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced several new sanctions packages against Russians and their partners for supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine. The new restrictions are set to be introduced before the end of the year.
“We are preparing several additional sanctions decisions by the end of this year against Russian entities and those who assist Russian aggression. There will be at least one sanctions package targeting individuals working with Russia’s military-industrial complex. These are not only people from Russia, but also, in particular, from China,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, sanctions are also being prepared against those who justify Russian aggression and promote Russian influence through mass culture, as well as against athletes who use their sports careers and public attention to glorify Russia’s aggression.
“We are working with European institutions on the details of the EU’s 20th sanctions package. The key task is to ensure that European sanctions increase pressure on the energy assets of [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin and the oligarchs connected to him,” the president added.
Zelenskyy also noted that a new sanctions package from Canada is being prepared. Ukraine will continue synchronizing sanctions, and the relevant decisions by the National Security and Defense Council and presidential decrees will be issued soon.
Ukraine’s latest sanctions against Russia
It should be recalled that in December, Ukraine imposed sanctions on nearly 700 tankers from Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, which transports sanctioned Russian oil in circumvention of restrictions imposed by the civilized world.
In September, Ukraine also introduced new personal sanctions against individuals and companies supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex, shadow fleet, and energy sector.
In addition, Ukraine fully synchronized this year’s sanctions with Canada. They cover 139 individuals and legal entities working for Russia’s war machine, including relatives of Vladimir Putin.
