President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting the National Security and Defense Council's decision to impose sanctions on 95 individuals and 70 legal entities. Most of them are citizens and residents of Russia, according to the Office of the President.
The sanctions apply to individuals and companies involved in servicing Russia's state defense orders and the activities of its defense-industrial complex. This includes enterprises and their managers that manufacture and supply products for the Russian defense-industrial complex and law enforcement agencies in the fields of communications, electronic warfare, and microelectronics.
Restrictions have also been imposed on industrial enterprises in the chemical, mining, metallurgical, and fuel and energy sectors of Russia.
“The imposed restrictions are intended to complicate the servicing of Russia’s military-industrial complex and to limit its capacity to produce weapons and military equipment used in the war against Ukraine,” the decree states.
The Office of the President emphasized that Ukraine will continue to work with international partners to synchronize sanctions decisions in the relevant jurisdictions. Some of the restrictions imposed may be taken into account when forming the 20th package of European Union sanctions, which is currently being prepared.
Ukraine's latest sanctions against Russia
In December, Ukraine imposed sanctions on nearly 700 tankers belonging to Russia's shadow fleet, which is used to transport sanctioned oil in circumvention of international restrictions.
In September, Kyiv introduced new personal restrictions on individuals and companies involved in supporting Russia's military-industrial complex, its shadow fleet, and energy sector.
Ukraine also fully coordinated this year's sanctions with Canada: 139 individuals and legal entities involved in supporting the Russian military machine, including relatives of Vladimir Putin, were subject to restrictions.
At the end of December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the preparation of several new packages of sanctions against Russian citizens and their partners for supporting the war against Ukraine.
