Zelenskyy and Macron discuss defense ties and Coalition of the Willing decision

During a phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed defense cooperation between the two countries, coordination of diplomatic efforts with the United States, and preparations for decisions within the coalition of Kyiv's allies, according to the official website of the President of Ukraine.
According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, the two leaders continued preparing decisions within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing. In this context, Zelenskyy noted that "everything is becoming more practical."
The sides also discussed support for Ukraine's Security and Defense Forces, as well as defense cooperation and domestic arms production in Ukraine.
"Particular and detailed attention was given to relations and coordination with the United States," the President's Office reported.
During his conversation with Macron, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of "maintaining a shared vision and readiness to act together," and expressed gratitude to France for its support.
Zelenskyy also spoke with Starmer
Earlier, the President reported on his phone conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which the two discussed sanctions against Russia and further diplomatic steps.
During the call, Zelenskyy noted that sanctions — including those imposed by the UK — help to "compel Russia toward peace," adding that "only pressure will work."
The Ukrainian President and the British Prime Minister also discussed yesterday's conversation with US President Donald Trump and "our joint actions within the coalition of the willing."
Coalition of the Willing
A number of Ukraine's European partners — led by the United Kingdom and France — have formed what is known as the Coalition of the Willing. These countries have taken a leading role in establishing this international alliance of states prepared to provide Ukraine with military and other forms of support aimed at achieving peace.
Earlier, UK Defense Secretary John Healey explained that the goal of this coalition is to help secure Ukraine's skies, seas, and land, and to support the country's defenders.
On May 20, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken stated that Belgium is ready to join the Coalition of the Willing and send troops to Ukraine after a ceasefire with Russia is reached.
Recently, Western media reported that European countries have so far struggled to gather even 25,000 troops for potential deployment to Ukraine.
