The leaders of the countries participating in the Coalition of the Willing have expressed their readiness to deploy support forces in Ukraine as part of security guarantees after the end of the war, according to Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Responding to the question of whether security guarantees or certain levers that Europe is ready to use to establish a just and lasting peace in Ukraine have crystallized, he noted that EU leaders have already developed a certain format for interaction with Ukraine.
"Without revealing any details, I will say that yes, European leaders participating in the Coalition of the Willing format — which includes the so-called Multifunctional Group Ukraine — are discussing the deployment of support forces," Zhovkva says.
According to him, the European side has decided on the specifics. He also notes that the American side, for its part, spoke about security guarantees, and this was discussed in detail during the meeting, and work on this is ongoing.
"We clearly understand which European countries can help Ukraine maintain peace and in what formats. After all, such a format will work after a truce is reached on the territory of Ukraine, and in the future, it will be necessary not to repeat Russian aggression," the deputy head emphasizes.
Security guarantees
Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the Coalition of the Willing had prepared plans to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and, if necessary, deploy troops on Ukrainian territory.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer took part in talks between EU leaders, Ukraine, and the US delegation in Berlin on December 14 and 15.
It was in the German capital that Ukraine and its partners finalized the US peace plan, focusing on such important issues as security guarantees.
In addition to guarantees, the current peace plan has two more sections: a 20-point framework agreement and a document on the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
The issue of territory remains difficult in the negotiations, as Ukraine does not agree to withdraw its army from Donbas.
