US President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction with the talks between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Berlin. Nearly all issues have been resolved, according to Sky News and The Guardian.
An unnamed US official said at a briefing that the negotiations were very positive. Consensus was reached on many points, with "90%" of issues settled. Remaining unresolved matters include questions of territory and sovereignty.
The official noted that some topics still need discussion, but President Trump is already pleased with the progress achieved. The US leader is expected to join Zelenskyy's evening meeting with European leaders by phone.
The official added that European representatives "have been outstanding" and expressed hope that the parties are moving toward peace.
Progress was also made regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, similar to NATO's Article 5, though the official warned that such guarantees would not remain on the negotiating table forever.
Additionally, the official noted that Russia could be open to Ukraine's accession to the European Union as part of a peace agreement to end the war.
Ukraine-US talks
Ukrainian and American officials are conducting negotiations in Berlin, with the first round held on December 14.
Ukraine was represented by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while the US delegation included Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Sources recently told RBC-Ukraine that the second round of talks is still ongoing, but without Zelenskyy.
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, said the dialogue was constructive and productive. He expressed hope for an agreement that could bring Ukraine closer to peace.
