The Coalition of Willing has prepared plans to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and, if necessary, to deploy troops on Ukrainian territory, reports APA.
“As part of the Coalition of the Willing, we had a political process involving [country] leaders, and we had a military process involving military planners. We said we wanted to [develop] military plans for [ensuring security] in the air, at sea, and on land, and for [strengthening] Ukraine's own capabilities,” the British prime minister said.
According to him, coalition members now have military plans for each of these areas.
“If necessary, this includes ground deployment, but right now the priority is whether we can achieve a just and lasting peace,” Starmer said.
Foreign troops in Ukraine
Talks about deploying a foreign military contingent in Ukraine have been ongoing for some time. In previous meetings of the Coalition of the Willing, which includes more than 30 members, countries were divided into three groups: those willing to send their troops to Ukraine if needed, those not willing, and those who have not yet decided.
It is currently known that the countries ready to deploy troops to Ukraine include the UK, France, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Baltic states, the Netherlands, and Australia.
Security guarantees
As is known, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer participated in the negotiations between EU leaders, Ukraine, and the US delegation, which took place in Berlin on December 14 and 15.
It was in the German capital that Ukraine and its partners refined the US peace plan, focusing on key issues such as security guarantees.
In addition to the guarantees, the current peace plan includes two other sections: a framework agreement consisting of 20 points, and a document on the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine.
Importantly, the issue of territories remains contentious in the negotiations - Ukraine does not agree to withdraw its army from Donbas.
