US President Donald Trump considers a major shake-up of his cabinet amid political pressure over the war with Iran and falling approval ratings ahead of the midterm elections, according to Reuters.
Who could resign
Sources say National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick are reportedly facing possible dismissal.
Trump is said to have already discussed potential replacements for the intelligence chief with allies, while Lutnick faces criticism over past connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
These moves follow the recent departures of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“Bondi is not the last one,” a White House official said.
Reasons for Trump's dissatisfaction
The president is reportedly frustrated with media coverage of the war in Iran and demands more positive reporting.
The five-week conflict has caused fuel prices to rise and Trump’s approval rating to drop to 36%, the lowest of his current term.
Allies viewed his recent televised speech to the nation as a failure, as it failed to address voters' economic concerns.
"Voters tolerate ideological messaging, but they feel fuel prices immediately," one official told the outlet.
Trump's cabinet shake-ups
In recent days, the White House has seen a series of high-profile personnel changes. On April 2, Trump fired US Attorney General Pam Bondi. Despite her dismissal, the president said a new position had been prepared for her.
The following day, it emerged that Trump is considering further administrative reshuffles, reportedly driven by dissatisfaction with certain departments' performance.
Moreover, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, a key negotiator for Trump on Ukraine, is reportedly at risk of removal, with his name listed alongside other top US officials as potential departures.
