The Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with the US President's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in the first half of next week, states the Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov, according to RIA Novosti.
"In the first half of the week. We will announce the exact day in due course," Peskov said, commenting on the possible date of Witkoff’s visit.
Witkoff to fly to Moscow
Last week, US President Donald Trump announced that he is sending his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Moscow, and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to Kyiv.
American officials are expected to discuss a peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Earlier, both Trump himself and Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Witkoff would arrive in Moscow next week.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin has already said that he wants to discuss the legal recognition of temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories as "Russian."
According to The Telegraph, Trump is "ready to recognize Russia’s control" over the occupied territories of Ukraine. The outlet reports that he is sending not only Witkoff but also his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to Moscow.
Journalists write that Witkoff and Kushner will be tasked with proposing an agreement to the Kremlin leader to end the war against Ukraine.
Notably, this week, Witkoff became embroiled in a scandal after media outlets released a recording of his conversation with Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.
During the talks, Witkoff assured that he believes in Putin’s desire to end the war and also requested leader-level negotiations. The US President’s special envoy advised on how to appease the American leader.
