The United States is allegedly prepared to recognize Russia’s control over Crimea and other temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine in order to secure a peace agreement, The Telegraph reports.

According to the outlet, Trump sent his special representative, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to make a direct proposal on the deal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Telegraph writes that the plan to recognize Russia's control over the occupied territories of Ukraine will most likely "go ahead," despite concerns from Ukraine’s European partners.

"It’s increasingly clear the Americans don’t care about the European position. They say the Europeans can do whatever they want," an unnamed source told the outlet.

At the same time, on Thursday, November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the "legal recognition by the US" of Crimea, as well as the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, would become one of the key issues in negotiations on the US peace plan.

US peace plan

Last week, it became known that the US had prepared a 28-point peace plan for Ukraine and Russia.

According to the contents of the plan, which appeared in Western media, Washington intends to "de facto" recognize Crimea, as well as the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, as Russian.

The proposal also concerned those parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions that remain under Russian control.

The peace plan was revised during a meeting between the Ukrainian and US delegations in Geneva. Some points were removed. Ukraine wanted to discuss the most sensitive issues with the US at the level of leaders, but it is still unclear when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with President Donald Trump.
