Ukraine and the United States have agreed on an updated version of the peace plan. It is expected that particularly sensitive issues will be addressed by Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, states the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, according to Ukrinform.
Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine needs a real peace and guarantees that aggression will never happen again. At the same time, according to him, the American side is listening to Kyiv’s proposals and taking them into account. In particular, this concerns reservations regarding specific points of the peace plan.
The MFA spokesperson did not specify which points raised concerns among Ukrainian officials. He noted that all points of the peace plan were discussed during the negotiations.
"Further work will continue. An updated framework text already exists, but work on several points will continue, and the particularly sensitive ones will be elevated to the level of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States. It is very positive that the delegation was able to discuss these concerns directly. And it was a constructive, results-oriented conversation," Tykhyi stressed.
Shortened peace plan
The US peace plan caused a stir because it includes fulfilling the Kremlin’s ultimatum demands to Ukraine.
In particular, under the plan, Russia would receive all of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
According to the Financial Times, as a result of negotiations between Ukrainian and American officials in Geneva, nine points were removed from the peace plan — leaving 19 points in total.
Oleksandr Bevz, advisor to the head of the Presidential Office, also wrote that some points were removed while others were amended.
