Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to use his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida on December 28 to resolve key differences over a proposed peace agreement, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to the publication, Zelenskyy insisted on the meeting to address disagreements regarding a 20-point draft agreement and other elements of a peace deal being discussed between the US and Ukraine, including issues related to the Donbas region.

The Ukrainian president also said that on Friday he would coordinate with European allies to determine their participation in meetings with the US on Sunday, noting that their involvement online is likely.

Meanwhile, CNN reports that European officials privately expect a positive outcome from the US-Ukraine presidential meeting on Sunday but are preparing for unpredictable scenarios. European leaders are not expected to attend the meeting in person.

European sources also noted that Ukrainian officials have been pushing for leader-level negotiations with the US for several months.

"There is no low-risk scenario with Trump," one NATO official said.

American sources told CNN they hope the meeting will be productive after a week of intensive efforts by both American and Ukrainian negotiators.

Meeting

On Sunday, December 28, Zelenskyy will meet Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Zelenskyy has pledged to address territorial issues during the meeting, including both Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. European leaders are expected to participate remotely.

Russia reportedly reacted with alarm to the news. The Kremlin stated that the 20-point peace plan presented by Zelenskyy radically differs from the version being discussed by representatives of the aggressor country and the US.
