What China says about Ukraine: Testimony from captured Chinese fighter

There is strong propaganda in China about the success of Russia in Ukraine. This may encourage foreigners to participate in the war, said one of the Chinese prisoners captured by Ukrainian forces during a press conference with journalists.
“China is promoting a friendly attitude toward Russia. Perhaps this encourages people to trust Russia and participate in these operations,” said Zhang Renbo.
He noted that before arriving in Ukraine, all the information he had about the war centered on Russia’s victories.
“Russia captured this, captured that - that’s how the information is presented,” the prisoner explained.
He also revealed that by Chinese standards, his family was considered wealthy.
“We had no problems. We had plenty of money. At first, I went to Russia to travel, and then decided to earn some money. But I didn’t expect to end up in a war,” he said.
Ukrainian forces capture Chinese nationals
Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a video showing Chinese nationals captured by Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk region.
In response, Ukraine summoned China’s chargé d’affaires, while China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was “verifying the situation” with Ukraine.
RBC-Ukraine, citing intelligence sources, reported that Ukraine’s Security Service has already interrogated the captured Chinese citizens and identified them by name. Later, documents surfaced indicating that Chinese military personnel are fighting against Ukraine in large numbers as part of the Russian army.
Today, the two captured Chinese nationals appeared before journalists. They said they did not want to take part in combat against Ukraine, but were forcibly sent to the front by Russia.
