As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a meeting with journalists, there is information about 155 Chinese nationals, with their surnames and passport details, fighting on Ukrainian territory.

"We are collecting information, and we believe there are many more of them," he added.

According to him, recruits are being recruited through TikTok and other Chinese social media platforms, where Russians spread advertisements. After that, they arrive in Moscow, undergo medical checks, and then go to training centers for 1-2 months, receiving migration cards and cards to receive money.

Two Chinese nationals, Wang Guangjun and Zhang Renbo, were captured near Bilohorivka and Tarasivka in the Donetsk region. Zelenskyy also mentioned that Ukrainian media will likely be allowed to interview them.

Chinese soldiers in Ukrainian captivity

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the Defense Forces captured two Chinese nationals fighting for Russia. This occurred in the Donetsk region, near Tarasivka and Bilohorivka. It was reported that during a clash with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, six Chinese soldiers were encountered, two of whom were captured.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, stated that Beijing is verifying the situation and limited his comment to advising Chinese citizens to stay away from conflict zones.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission to discuss this incident and demand an explanation.

Mikhail Podolyak, an advisor to the head of the Office of the President, suggested in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel that China would likely respond harshly to such incidents, as it is unlikely to want to become directly involved in the war. This could negatively impact China's economic and political interests, particularly in terms of global trade relations with Europe and the United States.
