We need red lines in peace talks on Ukraine - PACE President
Red lines should be set during possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Theodoros Rousopoulos says in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
As the PACE President notes, at the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia and Ukraine held certain negotiations, but now the question is what exactly peace means. If the war is over, but everything remains as it is now and the temporarily occupied territories become part of Russia, then this is not the kind of peace we would like to maintain.
“Of course, peace negotiation is something good in general and one will tell: if we don't have negotiations, how shall we know the results of this negotiation? So in principle, yes, but we have to put our limits, the red lines as they say, to what this peace is for,” he added.
Possible negotiations between Russia and Ukraine
After his inauguration, United States President Donald Trump called on Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table to end the full-scale war against Ukraine. Otherwise, he will take tough measures to force Moscow to do so.
Putin, in turn, complained that Kyiv is forbidden to engage in dialogue with Russia.
Meanwhile, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, warned that Western media will soon start making a series of reports with dates for the end of the war and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, but this will not be true.
