Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán once again claimed that Ukraine is allegedly interfering in Hungarian elections and financing his rivals. Orbán's remarks came during his press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Index reports.
According to the Hungarian prime minister, Ukrainians are not indifferent to what the election results will be, so "they decided to take part in the campaign."
"We stand on the ground of common sense, so this should not surprise us. Active participants in these elections will be the president of Ukraine and Ukraine, and we must defeat them too," Orbán said.
He also noted that Ukrainians "are taking part in the campaign with all their strength and weapons." In addition, according to Orbán, Ukraine allegedly finances his opponents — he also added that he "knows how this happens."
Orbán and his statements
Analysts believe that the rule of Viktor Orbán and his Fidesz party in Hungary may end in the near future. In particular, in the April elections, he risks losing to the opposition pro-European Tisza party.
Against the backdrop of the election campaign, Orbán has launched a large-scale information campaign against his main opponent, Péter Magyar, actively using harsh rhetoric and propagandistic statements.
One of the key elements of the campaign has been anti-Ukraine rhetoric, which the Hungarian prime minister is effectively trying to present as an "external enemy."
In particular, Orbán has stated that Budapest will not support Ukraine's accession to the European Union for the coming decades, and has also made controversial statements about the war, claiming that it is unclear who attacked whom.
In addition, the Hungarian prime minister publicly stated that Ukraine is allegedly seeking to deprive Hungary of access to cheap Russian energy resources, which, according to him, could lead to higher tariffs for Hungarian consumers.
