Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán made another harsh statement on Kyiv’s European integration during the forum in Davos. He assured that Budapest would not support Ukraine’s accession to the EU for a century, reports Telex.
The Hungarian leader once again confirmed his uncompromising position on the expansion of the European Union. Orbán stressed that he sees no prospects for Ukraine to join the bloc in the foreseeable future.
“I think that in the next 100 years there will not be a parliament in Hungary that would vote for the Ukrainians’ accession to the European Union,” Orbán stressed.
The Hungarian prime minister also accused the Ukrainian authorities of attempts to destabilize his government. According to Orbán, Kyiv is interested in changing Hungary’s political leadership to one that is more loyal.
“We do not want them to join the EU… We must acknowledge that the Ukrainians will be active participants in the Hungarian election campaign, because it is in their fundamental interests to change the government in Hungary. I am not thrilled about this, and we will fight against it,” Orbán added.
Zelenskyy’s statements and Orbán's offense in Davos
Public rhetoric between Kyiv and Budapest in Davos has intensified. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the forces trying to destroy Europe do not lose a single day. According to him, they even operate from within the EU.
The Ukrainian leader stressed that “every 'Viktor' who lives off European money while trying to sell out European interests deserves a smack upside the head,” referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán.
In response, Orbán showed offense, accusing Ukraine of attempts to interfere in Hungary’s internal affairs and change its government.
Earlier, Viktor Orbán called on citizens to support his Fidesz party in the 2026 elections, manipulating the claim that only that would protect Hungary from being “dragged into the war.”
On December 31, Orbán suggested that in 2026 the United States could make peace with Russia, ignoring Ukraine’s position and Europe’s interests. The Hungarian leader stressed that Budapest plans to gain maximum benefit from the normalization of relations between the United States and Russia, which explains his loyalty to the initiatives of US President Donald Trump.
