The members of the Coalition of the Willing are working on three main directions, which concern security guarantees for Ukraine and strengthening the defense of Europe as a whole, according to Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, on X.

"We have been working on 3 core tasks. Turning Ukraine into a steel porcupine. Building a Multinational Force for Ukraine backed by the US. Reinforcing Europe’s defence posture," wrote the head of the EC, and added a video from Paris which reflects today’s meeting of representatives of more than 30 countries.

It should be noted that von der Leyen is not speaking for the first time about the so-called "steel porcupine" into which Ukraine must be turned. Accompanying this term, the head of the EC spoke about the armed strengthening of Ukraine and its protection accordingly.

Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing

On September 4 in Paris, the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing began, the main topic of which is the security of Ukraine and Europe. Representatives of more than 30 countries arrived at the summit. The leaders gathered at the invitation of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

It is known that from the side of the USA, the coalition will be led by the special representative of the White House, Steve Witkoff.

As it is known, it was expected that the security guarantees for Ukraine would be similar to Article 5 of NATO, however, in the non-bloc status of the country.

Some European countries are considering, among other things, the possibility of deploying their troops on the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, Washington expressed its firm position that US servicemen will not be sent to Ukraine; however, the United States is ready to provide security in the air.

According to the media, it is already known which countries are prepared to deploy their troops in Ukraine, which are not, and who is still undecided in this matter.

It is important that any security guarantees will become possible only after an agreement about peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. At present, the question of negotiations between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is not resolved.

Despite the attempts of Kyiv and the international community to come closer to peace in the war, Russia demonstrates the opposite position, shelling Ukrainian cities. In the Office of the President, it was noted that Moscow must be forced to negotiate by strengthening economic pressure and scaling up Ukraine’s military capability.
