The Russian strike on a train station and passenger train in Shostka, Sumy region, underscores Putin's ongoing willingness to target Ukrainian civilians, reports President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

"The EU stands with Ukraine as its people once again suffer at the hands of Russian barbarity. The shocking scenes emerging from Shostka railway station highlight Russia's reckless and continued willingness to target civilians," she said.

Von der Leyen added that the EU and its partners are prepared to maintain pressure on Russia, aiming to force the regime to agree to a fair and lasting peace.

Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the strike as well. Officials said they were outraged by the Russian drone attack on Shostka, which deliberately targeted passengers and train staff.

"This is a blatant act of terror that reaffirms Russia's status as a serial violator of international law and a war criminal," the ministry stated.

Russian forces struck the Shostka railway station and the Shostka-Kyiv train on the afternoon of October 4. Around 30 people were injured, including seven who were seriously wounded. One person was killed in the attack.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a video from Shostka. For more details on the aftermath of the strike, read RBC-Ukraine's reports.
