The Russian army carried out a double drone strike on the railway station and two passenger trains in the city of Shostka on Saturday, October 4. It is already known that there are injured people, including three children, according to Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Ukrzaliznytsia, and the Prosecutor’s Office.

Double strike

According to Kuleba, Russia struck the Shostka railway station twice.

At first, the enemy hit the locomotive of the suburban train Tereschynska–Novhorod-Siverskyi. And when the evacuation of people began, the enemy attacked again — this time hitting the electric locomotive of the Kyiv–Shostka train.

"There are wounded among passengers and Ukrzaliznytsia employees. Medical teams have already taken the injured to hospitals and are providing the necessary assistance. Others are in shelters under the supervision of rescuers and will be evacuated after the alert ends. All necessary services, railway specialists, and local and regional authorities are on site," he reported.

It is now known that around 30 people were injured in Shostka as a result of the Russian strike.

"Rescuers, medical teams, and railway workers are on site. They are helping the injured and assessing the scale of the damage," said Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

Prosecutor’s Office launches investigation

Under the procedural guidance of the Shostka District Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the commission of war crimes (Part 1, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, on October 4, 2025, at around 11:50 AM Kyiv time, the enemy attacked a passenger train with a drone while it was at the Shostka railway station awaiting departure. Just a few minutes later, as the evacuation was underway, another drone strike hit a second train.

Prosecutors, together with other law enforcement officers, are documenting the consequences of the attack. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Shostka District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Sumy region.

Strike on the railway station in Shostka

Today, during the day, the Russian army struck the Shostka railway station in the Sumy region and the Shostka–Kyiv train with drones.

“Russia attacked the railway station in the Shostka community. The enemy deliberately struck civilian infrastructure — a passenger train running Shostka–Kyiv,” the Regional Military Administration stated.

Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed a video from Shostka, where Russians attacked a passenger train. After the strike, Shostka and part of the district were left without power.

Ukrzaliznytsia has also canceled a number of suburban trains in the region for October 4 and 5.
