The United States will prioritize weapons to allies that give their stockpiles to Ukraine. This applies, in particular, to air defense systems, according to The Wall Street Journal.

As other countries send Patriot systems from their arsenals to Ukraine, the Trump administration will continue to reallocate planned future deliveries, prioritizing those allies, a senior US official said.

Three US officials told the agency that the US has prioritized Germany over Switzerland in the process of moving Patriot systems off the assembly line. This will open the way for Berlin to send two systems to Ukraine.

According to the WSJ, the US promise to quickly replace the German Patriot is the first time the Pentagon has promoted the supply of weapons to Ukraine since Trump said earlier this month that he favored sending more weapons.

Over the next week, the US and its allies are likely to sign new deals to provide additional weapons.

On Monday, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth will hold a virtual meeting with defense ministers from other NATO countries to discuss assistance to Ukraine.

Patriot for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump recently said that the US would provide Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems, but that Europe would finance the delivery.

On July 14, Trump announced plans to provide Ukraine with 17 Patriot systems. A few days later, he said that the first missiles for the Patriot systems had begun to be shipped to allied countries.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz clarified that the delivery of air defense systems to Ukraine will take place in the coming weeks. The defense ministries of Germany and the United States are currently finalizing the details.

According to Bild, the first Patriot system for Ukraine, funded by Germany, will be ready in 6-8 months.
