Ukraine's first German-funded Patriot system coming in 6–8 months

The first Patriot system for Ukraine, funded by Germany, is still under construction. The system is expected to be ready in no less than six to eight months, according to Bild.
"Switzerland is moving further down the waiting list for Patriot systems. The first unit will not be delivered to Bern, but to Ukraine, and Germany will pay for it. However, the system is still being produced by the American defense company Raytheon and is not expected to be ready for at least six to eight months," the article states.
It is noted that Germany is also considering transferring another Patriot unit to Ukraine from Bundeswehr stockpiles, replacing it later with a new one from Raytheon. However, its production and delivery "will take years."
According to sources within the German government, the original plan was for the United States to supply Ukraine with weapons from its own stockpiles, while Germany would cover the costs of advance orders.
However, US President Donald Trump insisted that the Pentagon "cannot give up a single air defense system" and that Europe must find air defense systems from its own reserves.
At the same time, as the outlet reports, Europe lacks sufficient air defense capabilities, and discussions on who can assist Ukraine have been ongoing for several days.
According to Bild, three Patriot air defense systems are currently undergoing upgrades and are not yet ready for use, while another one is needed for soldier training.
Patriot systems for Ukraine
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that the United States would send Patriot systems to Ukraine, but that Europe would be responsible for covering the costs.
During a meeting with the NATO Secretary General on July 14, Trump announced the delivery of 17 Patriot systems to Ukraine. He noted that the systems could be deployed quickly.
A few days later, the US President said that the first Patriot missiles were already being shipped to allies.
According to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukraine will receive Patriot systems in the coming weeks. At present, all related matters are being coordinated at the level of the German and US defense ministries.
