Tammy Bruce, Deputy US Representative to the UN, stated that Russia’s massive attacks on Kyiv are a "barbaric escalation." She called on Moscow to cease fire and engage in negotiations, reports Ukrinform.
During the session, Bruce noted that the recent strikes on Ukraine, including the use of Oreshnik ballistic missiles, have resulted in civilian deaths. Moreover, over a hundred people have been injured.
The Deputy US Representative to the UN said that the latest massive Russian strikes on Kyiv, including the use of hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missiles, were an inexplicable, dangerous, and barbaric escalation.
Furthermore, the US representative pointed to destroyed and damaged facilities, including a museum, public transport, housing, and more. She stressed that such Russian strikes are unacceptable and abhorrent.
Bruce also warned Moscow against regular strikes on Kyiv, which could affect diplomacy and complicate the prospects for peace. She expressed concern that Russia is not complying with its obligations under international law to protect diplomatic facilities and personnel.
She said that they reminded Russia in clear terms of its legal obligations and that the US again called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire as a step toward a sustainable negotiated end to the war, emphasising that diplomacy and negotiations were the only path to peace.
Tammy Bruce noted that the alternative scenario is further escalation of violence spiralling out of control, stressing that this is unacceptable.
According to her, the US is ready to play a constructive role if the parties are genuinely committed to peace.
Attack on Kyiv
On the night of May 24, Russia launched a massive combined strike on Ukraine, using drones as well as air‑, sea‑, and land‑based missiles.
The main target of the attack was Kyiv. Damage was recorded in all districts. Residential buildings were hit, the Kvadrat shopping center burned down, among other things.
According to the latest figures, the death toll has risen to three, and over 90 people have been injured.
