Beijing responded to Moscow’s new threats of massive strikes on Kyiv with its usual abstract calls for dialogue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reports.
What Beijing said
“China’s position on the Ukrainian crisis is consistent and clear. We believe that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way to resolve the conflict,” Mao Ning said.
China once again called on the “relevant parties” to jointly stop escalation and return to the negotiating table.
“We urge the relevant parties to work together to stop the escalation as soon as possible and create conditions for the resumption of dialogue and negotiations,” the spokesperson added.
When asked whether Beijing was evacuating its diplomats from Kyiv, Mao Ning did not provide an answer.
China’s position in the war
Beijing officially declares neutrality and avoids naming either the aggressor or the victim in the war. China has not participated in any international initiatives aimed at stopping the fighting.
Chinese officials regularly call for “de-escalation and dialogue.” Despite this, Russia — Beijing’s closest ally — continues ignoring such appeals and escalating its aggression. China continues to act as if it does not notice this disregard.
Meanwhile, Russia is threatening new large-scale strikes on Kyiv. RBC-Ukraine previously reported that Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council described Moscow’s statements as an official announcement of further terror against civilians.
It is also worth recalling that China was reportedly secretly training Russian military personnel — information that contradicts Beijing’s official claims of neutrality in the war.
