The US is ready to take on a limited role in providing security guarantees to Ukraine. In particular, it may send pilots for air missions, CNN reports.

According to CNN sources familiar with the negotiations, the US stated that it is ready to take on a limited role in providing security guarantees to Ukraine if a peace agreement with Russia is reached.

It is noted that this could potentially involve American pilots carrying out air missions.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

On August 18, a meeting took place at the White House between the leaders of Ukraine, the US, France, Finland, Germany, the UK, Italy, as well as the head of the European Commission and the NATO Secretary General. The main topic of discussion was security guarantees for Ukraine.

The allies considered the possibility of security guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5, but outside the Alliance.

During the talks, US President Donald Trump confirmed US participation in these guarantees but emphasized that the main responsibility should lie with European partners, while ruling out the deployment of American troops to Ukraine.

After the meeting at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the details of the guarantees are expected to be finalized within 10 days.

According to Zelenskyy, the US is ready to be part of Ukraine's security guarantees, and negotiations on the specific content of these guarantees are ongoing daily.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Ukraine, the US, and the European Union countries are working on such security guarantees to ensure that Russian President Vladimir Putin, sitting in Moscow, never even thinks of attacking Ukraine again.
