US expresses concern over China's support for Russia's defense sector
The United States of America has expressed its concern to China over its support for the Russian defense sphere, reports Voice of America.
It is noted that this issue was discussed by US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell with China's Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu on March 27.
The conversation revolved around Beijing's support for Moscow's defense-industrial base.
According to a State Department representative, this phone call is part of ongoing efforts to maintain open lines of communication between the United States and China.
China-Russia relations
China has begun to strengthen its ties with Russia following the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In particular, Beijing refused to join the sanctions imposed by the United States against the Kremlin. China and Russia share a mutual interest in challenging US dominance in the world order, as their relations with democratic countries become increasingly strained.
Last October, the US Department of Defense stated that China, despite its denials, supplies arms to Russia. This includes drones, small arms, and equipment.
At the same time, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, that Beijing does not supply lethal weapons to Russia.
Recent US intelligence reports have indicated that China has been providing Russia with economic support and security assistance lately.
