Ukrainians' tolerance remains high, with 62% of respondents saying they are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary, according to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

According to the survey, Russia's peace plan remains categorically unacceptable to most citizens: 74% of Ukrainians consider it completely unacceptable, while only 17% are willing to accept the Russian version of peace.

At the same time, 69% of Ukrainians, though mostly without enthusiasm, support the plan proposed by Europe and Ukraine, while only 16% categorically reject it.

As for expectations regarding the end of the war, only 10% of respondents hope it will end before the beginning of 2026, 16% expect it to end in the first half of 2026, 12% in the second half of the year, and 29% predict 2027 or later. About one-third of Ukrainians, or 33%, said they were unsure.

At the same time, the majority of Ukrainians (62%) continue to say they are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary (the same figure was recorded in September). Another 3% said they are ready to endure it for about a year.

"A shorter period (six months or several months) is mentioned by 14% of respondents (it was 21% in September, while at the same time the share of those unable to answer the question increased from 13% to 21%)," the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology results state.

Negotiations on ending the war

On Sunday, December 28, the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, met in Florida to discuss details of a peace plan to end the war.

Following the meeting, both leaders made statements about its results. In particular, Trump reported some progress on the Donbas issue, noting that no final decisions had yet been made, but that the sides had moved closer to an agreement.

He also announced the creation of a special working group on peace settlement, which will work with senior US officials and maintain contact with the Russian side.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for his part, stated that the peace plan is agreed upon at 90%, and that security guarantees from the United States are at 100%.

As reported by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Russia seeks to create grounds for delaying negotiations on ending the war and to change its own positions within Trump's peace plan. That is why the story about an alleged attack on Putin's residence was invented.
