Ukrainian Security Service reveals details of Chinese prisoners’ interrogation

The Security Service of Ukraine investigators conducted the first interrogations of Chinese prisoners of war, who were captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Donetsk region. They shared how they ended up in the war and what tasks they performed as part of the Russian army on Ukrainian territory, according to the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The two Chinese citizens were captured by Ukrainian forces: one by the fighters of the 2nd Battalion of the 157th Separate Mechanized Brigade near the settlement of Tarasivka, and the other by soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade near Bilohorivka.
According to the Security Service, the prisoners do not have combat injuries but are receiving the necessary medical care as prescribed by the Geneva Convention.
To carry out initial investigative actions, the prisoners were transferred to Kyiv. They are being held in proper conditions that meet international law requirements. Communication with the prisoners is conducted through translators.
Both foreign nationals stated that they were captured during their first combat mission.
One of the individuals, an unemployed man born in 1991, was recruited by a Russian representative directly in China. In February 2025, he arrived in Moscow and signed a contract to serve in the Russian army.
The other, born in 1998, arrived in Russia in December 2024, supposedly for tourism. According to him, while in Russia, he applied to sign a contract in response to an online advertisement for recruitment and the offer of a 2 million ruble payment.
The Security Service is currently verifying the prisoners' statements and conducting necessary investigative actions to establish all the circumstances of the Chinese citizens' involvement in the Russian war against Ukraine.
The investigation is being conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes).
