Ukrainian missile Sapsan goes serial? Zelenskyy drops key update

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced during a press briefing that Ukraine is actively preparing for the mass production of its domestically developed ballistic missiles, known as Sapsan.
"We’ve had many meetings today regarding guided aerial bombs, drones, fiber optics, and more. We also held meetings about missiles," Zelenskyy said.
He added that successful tests of the weapon had already taken place earlier, and the current focus is on scaling up production.
"Today, the development of the capability for mass production of a ballistic missile is underway. When, how, and in what quantity — I cannot say," Zelenskyy emphasized, not revealing details for security reasons.
He also added, that Sapsan missile is not a new development; its tests were successfully carried out before today.
What is known about Sapsan
Sapsan is a Ukrainian operational-tactical ballistic missile developed by a group of domestic defense industry enterprises.
The system is designed to strike high-value targets at long range, including command posts, ammunition depots, military equipment, and enemy airfields.
Ukrainian ballistic capabilities
Earlier, President Zelenskyy chaired a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff, where the focus was on equipping Ukrainian units, staffing brigades, and advancing the country's missile program.
According to the president, ballistic missile development is now among the highest priorities in Ukraine’s defense planning.
Previously, Presidential Advisor on Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin stated that Ukraine had already launched serial production of ballistic missiles.
Minister for strategic industries Herman Smetanin confirmed that such weaponry is actively used — at least once a month.
