Ukrainian FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles are expected to become an analogue of the American ATACMS. At the same time, they will be twice as cheap, states the chief designer and co-founder of Fire Point, Denys Shtillerman, in an interview with Army TV.
He noted that the FP-7 has already passed testing and can destroy targets within a radius of several hundred kilometers. Meanwhile, the FP-9 is expected to have a longer range — its operational radius will reach 800 kilometers, and preparations for tests are already underway.
The main idea is to reduce the cost of the missiles as much as possible in order to produce them in large quantities.
"This will be an analogue of ATACMS, possibly even with a larger warhead. But it will cost at least twice less," Shtillerman emphasized.
The missiles are expected to be launched from mobile launchers disguised as ordinary trucks, making them difficult to detect. According to the developers, deployment of the system could take about 15 minutes.
FP-7 tests
On February 27, the chief designer and co-founder of Fire Point, Denys Shtillerman, demonstrated tests of the Ukrainian FP-7 ballistic missile.
Its technical characteristics are as follows:
-
Range — up to 200 km;
-
Warhead — 150 kg;
-
Maximum speed — 1,500 m/s;
-
Average speed — 800 m/s;
-
Deviation from target — 14 meters;
-
Maximum flight time — 250 seconds.
Notably, the Flamingo missiles, which are also produced by Fire Point, recently struck an Iskander missile plant.
