A Ukrainian company, Fire Point, has released a video testing its new FP-7 ballistic missile. The missile is capable of hitting targets at distances of up to 200 kilometers, according to a post on Twitter (X) by Fire Point co-founder Denys Shtilierman.

What is the FP-7

The FP-7 is a Ukrainian short-range ballistic missile developed by Fire Point. It is designed for precision strikes against ground targets, similar to the American ATACMS missiles.

Previously, the media outlet Defender Media reported on the specifications of the FP-7 missile and the upcoming FP-9, which is expected to be more powerful.

The FP-7 is based on the Soviet S-400 surface-to-air missile. It belongs to the surface-to-surface class and requires specialized launchers. According to the manufacturer, this issue has already been resolved.

What is known about Ukraine’s missile program and existing developments

Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine has been actively expanding its own missile production. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly emphasized the need to increase the number of Ukrainian missiles and extend their range. According to him, Ukraine must become a country capable of supplying itself with weapons independently.

In addition to Fire Point, other Ukrainian companies and state enterprises are also working on missile development. Pursuing indigenous long-range weaponry is one of the priorities of the country’s defense-industrial complex.

Fire Point also produces the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile, which is already in use and became the company’s first serially produced missile. The FP-7 will be the next step in the manufacturer’s weapons lineup.
