Ukraine will respond in kind to Russia’s attacks with far-reaching sanctions. However, if Moscow is ready for diplomacy, Kyiv will also pursue the diplomatic path, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Ukraine will act justly – day by day. We proposed a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 6. Yesterday and today, Russia has violated this ceasefire regime," he says.

The head of state notes that since the start of this day, Russia has been striking Ukraine with all means. In particular, this includes kamikaze drones, missile strikes, shelling, assaults on the front lines, and the use of aerial bombs.

"In just the time from midnight through the morning, there have already been around 100 attack drones, dozens of assault actions on key frontline directions, as well as dozens of air strikes," the President says.

Zelenskyy emphasizes that this indicates the Kremlin does not seriously consider the possibility of a ceasefire, and the only thing that continues to trouble the Russian authorities is a brief lull on Red Square.

Ceasefire and Russian strikes on Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 5–6, but Russia violated the ceasefire and continued to attack Ukrainian cities.

Throughout the night, the Russians launched drone and missile strikes on Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Kryvyi Rih. During the day, 2 Russian drones struck a kindergarten building in the center of Sumy, causing a fire.

Rescuers found the bodies of two deceased employees of the facility under the rubble; seven more people were injured.

On the night of May 7, Russians once again attacked Ukraine with over a hundred strike drones launched from seven directions. 8 Russian kamikaze drones were recorded striking six locations, and debris was also found.

Following these attacks, the Ukrainian President stated that Ukraine would respond in kind to Russia’s actions.
