Ukraine may receive up to 5 billion dollars in military aid under the PURL support program by the end of the year, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, according to El País.

"Essential equipment is arriving in Ukraine. European countries have made significant contributions over the past few years, but certain capabilities can only be provided by the United States. President (of the United States, Donald – ed.) Trump has agreed to have American weapons financed by Canada and European allies," Rutte said.

According to him, Ukraine receives approximately 1 billion dollars' worth of weapons every month.

"I am happy that Spain has also decided to support this initiative. This is important for the defense of Ukraine, for saving the lives of innocent Ukrainians, and for protecting the infrastructure targeted by Russian drones and missiles. It also ensures that Ukraine can conduct its own attacks and prevents Russia from succeeding," the NATO Secretary General added.

He also emphasized that by the end of the year, Ukraine will receive approximately 5 billion dollars in military assistance, which is about 1 billion dollars per month.

"We are on track to deliver all the weapons to Ukraine. But this concerns not only the PURL initiative. There is also the Czech initiative on ammunition, as well as efforts by Lithuania and Denmark to procure defense industry equipment from Ukraine," he added.

Rutte also stressed that European countries will continue supplying equipment from their own stockpiles. Although after three to four years of war, these stockpiles are decreasing, deliveries are still possible.

PURL program

PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) is a joint program of the United States and NATO that enables Ukraine to receive American weapons funded by NATO member countries.

Under the program, Ukraine provides a list of its priority defense needs, and partners finance the purchase of the listed items in the United States.

PURL also significantly accelerates weapons deliveries. Procurement takes place not through new orders but from existing US stockpiles. The mechanism also allows Ukraine to receive the weapons it needs immediately.

Recently, eight European countries announced 500 million dollars in funding for military equipment and ammunition for Ukraine under the PURL initiative.

Germany plans to make an additional contribution of at least 150 million euros to the PURL initiative.
