Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, has arrived in Miami for meetings with US representatives, according to RBC-Ukraine's source.

At the same time, presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn confirmed to journalists that Umerov had indeed traveled to the United States and had already briefed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, Lytvyn did not specify whether the official had arrived in Miami.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the visit comes as peace negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine have reached a deadlock in recent months. The agency provided no additional details.

Reuters also noted that Kyiv had hoped for a spring visit to Ukraine by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, but the trip didn't take place. Washington’s attention has shifted away from Ukraine amid the war in Iran.

Peace negotiations

Recently, US President Donald Trump said he continues to hold regular talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding an end to the war. According to Trump, the hatred between the leaders of the two countries is "crazy."

At the same time, The New York Times reported that neither Ukraine nor Russia currently has a clear plan for either peace or victory. According to the outlet, without an active role from Washington and significant pressure on the Kremlin, the prospects for reaching an agreement remain uncertain.

Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, previously said that peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are moving toward a possible agreement. He added that a full settlement of the war may not take very long.

Recently, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Zelenskyy is prepared to meet with Putin if the presidents of the United States and Türkiye also participate in the talks.

Earlier in April, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Türkiye is ready to host the next round of peace negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that sources within the Ukrainian government warn that the United States could soon begin a new round of pressure.
