Ukraine and China held political consultations during the visit of First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya to Beijing. Among other issues, the meeting addressed the termination of Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

According to the statement, on December 18, Kyslytsya held political consultations with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Bin. In particular, the sides discussed a number of issues and reaffirmed mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"The parties discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, outlined plans for high- and top-level contacts, discussed ways of enhancing trade and economic cooperation, and explored further collaboration within the framework of international organizations," the statement said.

It is noted separately that a "detailed exchange of views" took place regarding the situation surrounding Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. Kyslytsya and Liu Bin also discussed, among other things, international efforts to achieve a lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

On the morning of December 18, it became known that First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya had arrived in China on a visit. There, he has already met with US Ambassador to China David Perdue.

Recently, amid the European Union’s plans to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, China stated that it continues to oppose sanctions that violate international law and are not approved by the UN Security Council. However, China did not speak out directly against the use of Russian assets.
