Following the meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Florida, it has not yet been determined where and when the next round of negotiations on a peace agreement will take place. However, working contacts between Ukraine and the US continue, according to an informed source.
"Working contacts continue even between meetings. In other words, the fact that we met in Geneva and now in Florida does not mean that there were no working contacts in between. They are ongoing," the source says.
In addition, the Ukrainian side emphasizes the importance of personal contact between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump to determine the next steps at the highest political level.
"We want to convey that it is important for us not just to meet to ratify the agreement. There are some things that the President of Ukraine considers necessary to discuss with his American counterpart. Let's hope that this opinion will be heard," says the interlocutor.
US peace plan and Trump-Zelenskyy meeting
A few weeks ago, the media revealed a new US peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. The document consisted of 28 points, but overall, it was very favorable to Russia.
For this reason, on November 23, a meeting of delegations from the US, Ukraine, and Europe was held in Geneva to finalize the plan and make it more favorable for Kyiv.
At this meeting, the parties reached a framework agreement. However, the joint statement said that the leaders of the US and Ukraine agreed on the final provisions of the deal.
At the same time, work on the document is not yet complete. In particular, on November 30, delegations from the US and Ukraine held a meeting in Miami, where they continued to coordinate their positions on complex issues of the peace plan.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the negotiations covered issues related to Ukraine's territories and NATO membership. Security guarantees have not yet been raised, but according to the source, the US understands that without this, the potential of the peace agreement will not be realized. In view of this, the issue of security guarantees is not a problem.
Incidentally, US President Donald Trump initially gave Ukraine an ultimatum to accept the agreement by November 27. It was expected that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would arrive at the White House last week to sign it.
But Trump soon reneged on his deadline, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the agreement could be delayed.
Regarding the meeting, Trump stated that Zelenskyy had expressed interest in visiting the White House. However, according to him, the agreement must first be finalized.
Additionally, he also spoke about a meeting with Zelenskyy and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. According to Trump, the meeting will only take place when the peace agreement is ready.
