Ukraine is very close to developing ballistic missiles — MoD

Ukraine is working on developing ballistic missiles, and it is very close to having its own weapons capable of striking deep into Russia, stated Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal in an interview with BBC News Ukraine.
In response to the question of when Ukrainian ballistic missiles will be seen and regularly used against targets in Russia, Shmyhal noted that Ukraine is very close to this.
"The President of Ukraine has already announced that Ukraine will have its own ballistic missiles. We are very close to that. That is basically all I can publicly say on this matter," said the Defense Minister.
Development of ballistic missiles in Ukraine
In May of this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the acceleration of the development of ballistic missiles to the maximum extent.
"The task is to speed up the creation of Ukrainian ballistic missiles as much as possible. Our long-range capability is a clear and effective guarantee of security for Ukraine," emphasized the head of state.
In August last year, Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine had conducted successful tests of its first domestically produced ballistic missile.
Meanwhile, Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said its range could reach up to 700 kilometers.
At the same time, Oleksandr Kamyshyn, presidential adviser on strategic issues, recently noted that Ukrainian ballistic missiles are being produced in series.
According to former Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Herman Smetanin, Ukraine uses such weapons monthly.
