Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) drones have halted operations at an oil production platform in the Caspian Sea. This is the first time Ukraine has struck a Russian oil extraction facility in the region, according to sources.
According to sources, long-range drones of the Alpha Special Operations Center of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) struck the Filanovsky oil production platform, which belongs to Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft.
It is emphasized that this is the first time Ukraine has struck Russian infrastructure related to oil production in the Caspian Sea.
It is reported that at least four impacts on the offshore platform were recorded as a result of the attack, and oil and gas extraction from more than 20 wells was halted.
The Filanovsky field is one of the largest discovered in Russia and in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. Its reserves amount to 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The extracted resources were exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.
"The SBU continues successful special operations against the Russian oil and gas sector, constantly expanding its geography. The Bavovna (a Ukrainian slang term referring to explosions at Russian military or industrial sites - ed.) in the Caspian Sea is another reminder to Russia that all of its enterprises working for the war are legitimate targets — wherever they are located," an informed SBU source said.
Attacks on Russian oil facilities
Attacks on Russian oil facilities reduce fuel reserves for the Russian army and inflict economic losses on the Kremlin's war machine.
Coordinated actions by the Security Service of Ukraine, Special Operations Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the State Border Guard Service have collectively disabled about 20% of Russia's oil-refining capacity, causing a fuel crisis and complicating logistics.
Earlier, SBU drones successfully struck the Orsk Oil Refinery located 1,400 km from Ukrainian territory.
Also, SBU drones hit and turned off the Tingovatovo oil pumping station in the Russian Chuvash Republic.
And yesterday, reports emerged about a strike on a sanctioned Russian tanker in the Black Sea. It belongs to the so-called shadow fleet. According to preliminary information, the vessel has been put out of operation.
