Ukraine expects new announcements as allies increase funding for PURL program

New contributions from allies under the PURL initiative are expected to be announced soon. The program envisions the purchase of American-made weapons by NATO member states and partners, followed by their transfer to Ukraine, stated Ukraine's Ambassador to NATO, Alyona Getmanchuk.
Seven countries are preparing to announce contributions
Getmanchuk said Ukraine is holding active talks not only with NATO member states but also with Alliance partners who may join in funding the initiative.
"There's an expectation that at least seven countries will announce their contributions tomorrow. These are nations that have already signaled readiness to support PURL. We are also working to ensure that some countries increase their contributions. And I hope there will be pleasant surprises — when those who haven't previously announced their intentions join the program," the diplomat said.
She reminded that six countries have already contributed funds to support Ukraine through PURL, while another seven have confirmed readiness to do so soon. According to her, Ukraine aims to expand participation by engaging major economies, including G7 countries.
PURL is a key to defense, air protection, and energy resilience
Getmanchuk emphasized that the PURL initiative is crucial for supporting the Ukrainian front, strengthening air defense, and protecting critical infrastructure.
"They (the allies - ed.) traditionally ask us about winter — how we will get through it. I tell them: in terms of our energy system, winter has already begun for Ukraine. It hasn't come on the calendar yet, but given the intensity of Russian strikes on critical infrastructure and the state of our energy grid, it's already here," she said.
The head of Ukraine's NATO mission urged allies not to delay their contributions, stressing that assistance is needed now.
"So please, if you planned to make your PURL contribution in winter, when you think things will be especially difficult for Ukraine, do it now," Getmanchuk added.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a new defense agreement with one of the European countries is being prepared and is expected to be unveiled next week.
